Motor Starters

To help customers get the right size motor starter, Elimia offers them as one unit. All units are comprised of a contactor and overload relay. But, with sub-categories, separate contactors and overloads can be purchased individually as well. The customer must know their control Voltage (coil Voltage), main Voltage and HP at a minimum to get the right set up. See Technical Support from above for more details on sizing.

Our motor starters are high quality Korean made starters and are both Nema rated and IEC rated where the sizes overlap.

We stock HP sizes from tiny to a few hunderd Amps. Most all units have compression connections except the very large units above ~200 Amps. Clink on the link HERE to download the latest specification catalog.

The standard overload trip class is 10. Class 10 is suitable for most all applications except extreme hard starting and extreme long starting applications. For those applications you should consider a Class 20 overload which is stocked for common HP sizes. Keep in mind how a Class 20 rating reduces your motor protection. The overloads include (1) N/O & (1) N/C control level auxilary contact. These auxiliaries toggle during an overload condition. Typically, the N/C is used to break one side of the contactor coil to trip out the motor starter under overload conditions.

The standard overloads are thermal type. They can be set for auto reset or manual. Auto reset should never be selected for a setup where it would cause dangerous conditions if the motor started unintentionally once the automatic reset occurred. The reset time is usually around 5-10 minutes depending on ambient temperature and manually resetting the overload during this period will not result in a reset. 

Coil Voltages are available in 120VAC, 230VAC (good for 208V), 480VAC, 24VAC and 24VDC. Largest sizes for 24VAC and 24VDC may not be stocked. Remember that the coil Voltage is what activates the starter and does not have anything to do with the main Voltage. However, the easiest starter set up will usually be using a coil Voltage that is the same as the operating Voltage. Using the same Voltage means additional controls or wiring will not be needed as you can use two legs of your main voltage for contactor operation. In other words, if your main power is 480V you could steal power from two legs to operated a coil rated for 480V.

At least one N/O Auxiliary contact is included with every starter. The very small contactors have one N/O built in to them. For motor starters that do not have an auxilary built in we provide one Auxiliary block containing (1) N/O & (1) N/C) auxiliary. Additional auxiliary contact blocks can be purchased from the options list for the item.
